A deeper dive into what ACLS certification is, course content, how AHA comes into play, and what differences exist between online and classroom based training.
ACLS or Advanced Cardiac Life Support is designed for healthcare professionals that directly or indirectly participate in the management of cardiopulmonary arrest and other cardiovascular emergencies as well as strokes. ACLS defines emergency response team dynamics and communication, systems of care for emergency situations, and post-cardiac-arrest care. Included within the guidelines of ACLS is also airway management and pharmacology. Simply, ACLS is a set of guidelines and knowledge requirements for how an emergency response team is to deal with certain medical emergencies until a patient has stabilized, and is out of the care of the emergency team.
The course content for an ACLS course includes Key changes in ACLS guidelines, including the 2016 AHA guidelines for cardiopulmonary resuscitation and emergency cardiovascular care, as well as any state requirements. ACLS courses will also cover Basic Life Support (BLS) skills, recognition and early management of respiratory and cardiac arrest, airway management, related pharmacology to these types of emergency situations, management of acute coronary syndromes (ACS) and stroke, effective communication as a team member and team leader, team dynamics, and recognition and early management of perri-arrest conditions. All ACLS certification classes from The California ACLS Training Institute are self-paced. You study from the official American Heart Association student manuals. You practice online with our online study material, and you decide when it is right for you to take the test.
Founded in 1924 by physicians, the American Heart Association's mission is "\To build healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke."\ The American Heart Association is a non-profit organization based in Dallas TX that fosters appropriate cardiac care in a national and to some extent global effort to reduce disability and deaths caused by cardiovascular disease and stroke. The American Heart Association is also responsible for many of the ACLS guidelines used by the vast majority of medical professionals, and the guidelines The California ACLS Training Institute is based on.
There is much to consider, and a lot of debate about the difference between conventional classroom training and online training in general, and online ACLS is no exception. Our goal is to shed some light on the pros and cons of both online training and classroom training. First let's take into account the current trends of continuing education and training in general. The reality is that our world is going mobile, that truth is undeniable, and affects continuing education and professional training in a big way. Making it much simpler for the student and teacher to communicate, and allowing the teacher to reach a broader audience, online etraining is being embraced as a legitimate method of education delivery worldwide. More and more organizations, including The American Heart Association are producing online based training, and even entire college level degrees are 100% online based. With everyone having to do so much more with so much less, the future of online training becoming the standard is inevitable. Why? Because online training is faster and more convenient than classroom based training, more cost effective, and you can do so much more to personalize the training to the student. What about classroom training? Classroom training is still legitimate, and has been the standard practice for many years. The conventional classroom will always have a place, but rapidly many entities are planning on replacing this education delivery system with an online model. The advantage to classroom training is that currently it is common place, and for this reason a comfortable familiar setting. The reality though, is that organizations and students are learning that the benefits of online training far outweigh the dwindling few advantages of conventional classroom training. This is also true for ACLS certification training. The largely debated reason for classroom based ACLS training is the skills check. Proponents for classroom ACLS will argue that you cannot be tested in a real-world way with online based ACLS training, from reacting to situations to practicing CPR. However, this is not true. Online based ACLS training modules are a more effective, and completely customizable way to simulate real-world scenarios. Regardless though, a simulation of any kind will never equal a real-world scenario. Furthermore, there has been debate in the medical community as to whether or not performing CPR on a manikin is a usefull simulation for a human beings at all. When it comes right down to it, it is your decision as to the method of training you wish to choose. Most online ACLS courses, including The California ACLS Training Institute's course are accepted nationally and internationally. In many respects, the only differences are that online ACLS courses offer a more convenient, easy and faster way to get the ACLS certification you need without intrusion into your already busy schedule.
